This 6-credit point unit advances students’ understanding and application of psychotherapy in practice.
This 6-credit point unit advances students’ understanding and application of psychotherapy in practice. Students will learn skills in case formulation, treatment planning, making referrals, and writing reports. They will develop skills in articulating and applying psychotherapy interventions. The function of clinical supervision in supporting the development of students as psychotherapists is explored. Students will present psychotherapy clients in supervision and receive feedback on their practice from their supervisor. Professional documents including client contracts, consent to release information forms, and supervision and counselling logs, are utilised in this unit. Students will also critically evaluate their application of skills within their practice by recording and reflecting on a client session.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- a) Accurately identify and apply key legal, ethical and professional requirements in their holistic psychotherapy practice
- b) Utilise clinical supervision to support their development as psychotherapists, and to ensure they provide skilful and ethical psychotherapy for their clients
- c) Prepare and present client cases in supervision sessions to demonstrate the integration of holistic psychotherapy knowledge and skills
- d) Develop and apply skills in case formulation and treatment planning
- e) Critically reflect on areas of professional practice and personal aspects of self in need of further development
- f) Competently demonstrate application of holistic counselling and psychotherapy skills in practice
- g) Competently demonstrate a range of process oriented skills and interventions in practice
Delivery Mode
Blended: Intensive workshops, supervision, personal study, and placement.
The total unit workload is equivalent to 11.87 hours per week over the semester, 190 hours in total.
● 12 hours on-campus workshop intensives
● 100 hours of placement including 25 client hours (recommended minimum)
● 10 hours supervision (at intensives and via Zoo during the semester)
